Espionage Act

As I was sitting here, reading about WikiLeaks (got bored with homework) I found a good interview with Daniel Ellsberg, the first man to be charged under the Espionage act of 1917 for leaking pentagon papers relating to the Vietnam war. This man is one of my new heroes. This interview was on how the laws take place, how America is slowly turning into a country preventing freedom of speech, and changing into a country similar to the UK.

As I was looking at this, and realized that there are many MANY flaws. Accordingly, if read this online, you have to return the paper you read it on to the government. If this is the case, when the internet comes into question.... well... return the web page? After reading it and looking at Obama's previous actions, I have to agree with Mr. Ellsberg in the possibility of the American Government passing even more legislation to limit our freedoms. So far, the patriot act did a major kick at that, looking in terms of monitoring tweets and peace groups. BUT! That is not why I am posting, no no it is not... the main thing I am looking at is how this act gives the Postmaster General the ability to prevent press from publishing articles if they feel it interferes with the government's plan...

...yeah...

Now, going more into the recent post (on the 28th) concerning the Iraqi records... The person in question is not actually in our country. He actually is in London and is currently being harassed by the American government in many ways such as having his donation service program being blacklisted by the United States, governmental pressures to stop him from traveling, etc.

Now, what makes these charges illegal or at least illegitimate in my opinion is the fact that WikiLeaks actually notified the US Government the documents they were releasing and is holding 1/5 of the documents due to this. There has been NO damage done due to this in terms of government or intelligence processes or anything of the sort.

Oh well, just another person trying to make the government more transparent... wait.. Obama said he wanted to do that right? Well, he has procecuted more leakers in his term than ALL other presidents in the history of our country and now wishes to prosecute ALL posters to WikiLeaks.... meh.
